So when ESPN broadcaster Gary Thorne broached the idea of a closer-by-committee before Monday's 9-4 Cactus League win over Texas, Baker clearly was tired of talking about it.
"Who suggested it?" he said. "I've never seen it work.
"Boston tried it [in 2003]. People are always trying to invent something in the game. The game basically hasn't changed."
After explaining why it wouldn't work, Baker ended by saying, "A lot of people are trying to tell me what to do."
