The Tribune likes to do a View from a Cubs fan. on its website. Today the fan talks about getting Nomar Garciaparra.

So what would it take to get him? Gonzalez is the first piece as the Cubs would want to shed his salary and Boston would be looking to get a replacement at shortstop for the rest of the season. One of the good, young fireballers on the team is probably the next piece—Kyle Farnsworth or Francis Beltran being the most likely.

Beyond this, one or two of the Cubs' highly touted prospects would probably be enough to seal the deal. While it's always risky to give up prospects, particularly for a player on the verge of free agency, the Cubs have so many good, young pitchers that they can afford to give up a few.

Boston has zero interest in Alex Gonzalez. They can move Pokey Reese to SS and not pay any of A-gonz salary. Boston also has zero interest in Kyle Farnsworth. They already have 3 or 4 inconsistent arms in their bullpen just as good and effective as Farnsworth.

Any deal involving the Cubs and Boston would in my opinion involve Matt Clement. Boston isn't going to give him away for crap like Farnsworth and A-gonz. Our junk is not another teams usefull player. It is junk to them as well.

And ummmm this is the whacky side of my brain thinking again, but can we ship Alou in exchange for Manny Ramirez? I know Man-Ram is moody, and can be a pain in the ass, but the man can flat out rake. You know Boston would love to dump his contract and keep Nomar. But that is a 20 million dollar financial move the Cubs would never make.
