Unless your in a hole, you probably knew Wood made his rehab start down in AAA last night.
The Des Moines Register printed a collectible poster of Wood, headlined "Another All-Star returns to Iowa." Wood was celebrated with five standing ovations, three in his last 10 minutes when he left the mound, batted for the second time and left for the clubhouse down the left-field line while giving the crowd an appreciative wave.
Ohh but how did he pitch?
The plan was for Wood to throw 75 pitches or five innings, whichever came first. His control was so good that his innings limit was reached well before his pitch limit. Fleita got a call in the fourth inning from Cubs pitching coach Larry Rothschild, in Milwaukee at the Cubs-Brewers game, and the decision was made to end the exercise after allowing Wood to bat in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Mean while no one is showing the love to poor Alex Gonzalez.
